‘Show proof or face … ‘: Himachal Congress warns Kangana Ranaut over her ‘foolish’ statement on state funds being diverted to Sonia Gandhi | India News

NEW DELHI: The Himachal Pradesh Congress on Monday threatened to file a defamation suit against BJP MP Kangana Ranaut over her remarks that its government in the state had diverted funds meant for development to Sonia Gandhi.
“I openly challenge BJP MP Kangana Ranaut to show proof of even Re 1 being diverted to Sonia Gandi or apologise to the Congress leader for making such baseless and unwarranted allegations against her.Otherwise, the Congress will file a defamation case against her,” Himachal Pradesh minister Vikramaditya Singh said.
Kangana had on Sunday said, “The Himachal Pradesh government takes loans and gives it to Sonia Gandhi, which has made the state’s coffers hollow.” “If we (Centre) give disaster funds, it goes to the CM Relief Fund but everyone knows that it goes to the Sonia relief fund from there,” she had said during a BJP programme in Manali.
Reacting strongly to the BJP MP’s remarks, the Congress minister said Kangana’s “foolish statement” reflected her “intellectual bankruptcy”. “There cannot be a bigger foolish statement than saying that funds coming from the Centre or the state’s funds for development are being given to Sonia Gandhi,” Vikramaditya Singh said.
“It hurts to say that she is not much educated and the same reflects in her statements. We all know that funds from the Centre and state development funds are spent through line of credit, draft and overdraft facilities,” he added.
The Congress leader also took a dig at Ranaut and attributed her “baseless remarks” to the fact that her film “Emergency” has still not been cleared for release by the Central Board of Film Certification. “The BJP MP does not visit Himachal Pradesh often but, with her film being “blocked” by the censor board, maybe she is saddened and making baseless statements from her home in Manali,” he said.
This is not the first time that Kangana has stoked a controversy with her remarks. In August, Kangana Ranaut was reprimanded by her party over her controversial remarks that were rapes and murders during the farmers protest and suggesting that it could have led to a Bangladesh-like situation in the country if the BJP’s top leadership was not strong enough.
The BJP released a statement disowning Kangana’s remarks. “The statement made by BJP MP Kangana Ranaut in the context of the farmers’ movement is not the opinion of the party. The Bharatiya Janata Party expresses its disagreement with the statement made by Kangana Ranaut. She is neither permitted nor authorised to make statements on party’s policy. She has been directed not to make such statement in future,” the party had then said.

Bengaluru woman’s dismemberment case: Police identify ‘outsider’ as prime suspect in gruesome murder | India News

NEW DELHI: The prime suspect in the horrific murder of a 29-year-old woman, whose dismembered body was found stuffed into a refrigerator, has been identified by the authorities, said Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda on Monday.
“It is being investigated from all angles. The prime suspect has been identified, and efforts are underway to arrest him,” said Commissioner Dayananda at a press conference. While he did not provide specific details, the commissioner said, “He’s an outsider. We can’t give more information as of now as it may help the accused.”
The gruesome discovery was made on September 21 at the woman’s rented residence in Vinayaka Nagar, Vyalikaval, where her decomposing body was found. The victim, Mahalakshmi, had been living alone in the house for the past five months. According to Shekar H Tekkannavar, deputy commissioner of police for Central Bengaluru, the body parts were severely decomposed, leading investigators to believe the murder occurred about two weeks prior.
Karnataka home minister G Parameshwara confirmed that the police have collected “a lot of clues” and suspect a man reportedly from West Bengal to be behind the crime. However, the minister emphasized that more evidence is required before making any conclusions. “The police have collected a lot of information, a lot of clues. One individual is also… kind of they say he is the one. Unless we collect more information, we can’t really say. He is from West Bengal, they say,” Parameshwara said.
When asked about the government’s efforts to enhance women’s safety in Bengaluru, Parameshwara highlighted various initiatives in place. “We have already taken a lot of precautions for women’s safety in Bengaluru. We are very careful about it. We have installed CCTV where a lot of women go. These kinds of steps we have taken,” he assured.
The murder has sparked political backlash, with the BJP launching a scathing attack on the Congress-led Karnataka government. The state unit of the BJP accused the Siddaramaiah administration of failing to maintain law and order, citing the murder as evidence.
“Under @INCKarnataka rule, appeasement policies have led to a complete collapse of law and order. The brutal murder of Mahalakshmi by Ashraf is a clear reminder that Kannadigas are no longer safe in this Hitler-led @siddaramaiah government,” the official BJP Karnataka handle posted on X.
The BJP further alleged that Congress’s opposition to anti-love Jihad laws was driven by vote bank politics.
As the investigation continues, the police remain tight-lipped about additional details but are focused on apprehending the suspect and gathering conclusive evidence.

UK woman shocked after being fined Rs 55,000 for offering free IKEA cabinet

UK woman shocked after being fined Rs 55,000 for offering free IKEA cabinet
A woman from the UK’s Bournemouth, who put an IKEA cabinet outside her home, offering it for free to any passerby, got the shock of her life when she was fined £500 (Rs 55,571.20) for fly-tipping.
Isabelle Pepin, a graphic designer and artist, was left “very surprised” upon receiving a substantial penalty for fly-tipping after placing a cabinet outside her residence for others to take, Independent reported.
The cabinet, which had been used to store her son’s toys, was left against her front wall.
According to Pepin, a council officer approached her five days later, informing her of an issue with the cabinet’s placement. She promptly relocated it back onto her property and disposed of it.
However, three weeks later, she was startled by another visit from an enforcement officer who presented her with a £500 (Rs 55,571.20) fine for fly-tipping.
“I got a knock on the door with a man with an enforcement camera on his chest, telling me he is filming me,” she said. “He read the caution speech to me – so that was very nerve-wracking. And then he issued me with a £500 fine for fly-tipping.”
Pepin challenged the fine in writing and initiated an appeal process with the third-party enforcement company employed by Bournemouth Council to issue such penalties. She has received an outpouring of support from the local community, with one resident admitting to engaging in similar practices for years without realizing it constituted fly-tipping.
Additionally, several local councillors have reached out to Pepin with messages of support. She remains hopeful that the appeal process will be successful, resulting in the fine being rescinded.
