ISL 2024-25: Mohammedan SC Pick up Maiden Triumph at Chennaiyin FC’s Marina Arena

ISL 2024-25: Lalremsanga Fanai scored to hand Mohammedan SC a 1-0 win over Chennaiyin FC (FSDL)

The newly-promoted side registered their first ever win in the ISL as Lalremsanga Fanai’s lone strike gave the visitors all points on offer in Chennai.

Newly promoted Mohammedan SC marked their travel to Chennai with a historic first-ever win in the Indian Super League as they edged out the home side 1-0 on Thursday at the Marina Arena.

Lalremsanga Fanai’s lone strike proved to be the difference between the sides as the Kolkata-based side picked up all points on offer in the TN capital city.

Owen Coyle opted to start Samik Mitra in goal against the Kolkata side with Laldinliana Renthlei, Ryan Edwards, PC Laldinpuia and Ankit Mukherjee as the defensive foil. Connor Shields, Elsinho, Lalrinliana Hnamte and Faroukh Choudhary made up the midfield with Daniel Chukwu Chema and Irfan Yadwad made the attacking duo up front.

Andrey Chernyshov fielded Padam Chettri in goal, behind the defensive quartet of Adinga Ralte, Gaurav Bora, Joseph Adjei and Vanlalzuidika Chhakchhuak. Alexis Gomez, Mirjalol Kasimov and Amarjit Singh Kiyam made up the three-man midfield with Makan Chote, Carlos Freires and Lalremsanga Fanai up top.

Chennaiyin started the game off on a positive note venturing forward multiple times, but the visitors held tight at the back to keep the ball from sailing into the net. However, the hoists were awarded a coupe of setpieces from threatening positions, but the eventual deliveries into the ball were cut out by the Mohammedan defence.

Mohammedan nearly took the lead following a defensive blunder as a weak headed effort aimed back at the keeper was woefully misplaced but Gomez, who latched onto the loose ball, rounded the keeper only to hit the woodwork.

However, calamity struck as the Chennaiyin defence erred yet again as confusion between the onrushing keeper and leftwing back presented Fanai with the opportunity to roll the ball into an empty net to give the tourists a lead.

Coyle chose to bring on Lukas Brambilla on for Elsinho as the only HT change in the fixture with Chennai venturing with attacking intent.

Chennai nearly pulled level but for a brave bit of last-ditch defending from the Mohammedan defence.

Coyle sprung for a triple change after 65 minutes of play as Wilmar Jordan, Gurkirat Singh and Kiyan Nassiri were fielded in place of Chukwu, Choudhary and Irfan in a show of clear attacking objective, while Mohammedan withdrew Chote in favour of Bikash Singh.

With a quarter of the game still remaining, Mohammedan nearly found an insurance strike but the ball in from the new man could not be met in the middle by a sliding Fanai.

Gomez demonstrated composure to sidestep a defender inside the box before pulling the trigger but his attempt was straight at the Chennai custodian and the scoreboard remained still.

The man in the middle waved for play to continue after Jordan was brought down inside the box, and Gurkirat went for the spectacular from outside the area, only for his effort to dip beyond the crossbar.

Cesar Manzoki skied a spot kick to put daylight between the sides in second-half stoppage time, before the visitors’ defence proved strong yet again with a goalline clearance on the overturn of play.

Despite the hosts’ repeated attempts to break down the Mohammedan defence, the crowd of just over 9700 spectators most of whom had flocked in to support the Blue, went home without a point from the home game.

Why are Oarfish called Doomsday Fish and do they really warn of an earthquake

Why are Oarfish called Doomsday Fish and do they really warn of an earthquake

Recently, a rare oarfish, popularly known as the “doomsday fish” was caught off Melville Island in Australia’s Tiwi Islands, approximately about 80 kilometers from Darwin. Skipper Curtis Peterson of Tiwi Islands Adventures captured this astonishing creature while on a moonlight fishing trip. This stunning silver-coloured, ribbon-like-looking fish is known to grow up to over nine months long and is rarely seen by the human population, considering it is usually found in deep-sea habitats.
What makes Oarfish special?
These rare creatures are renowned for their serpent-like look and can swim at depths of up to 1,000 meters.Commonly, they are passive feeders, consuming small and krill sea creatures such as crabs, shellfish, prawns and lobsters. Encounters are uncommon as these fish are mostly found washed ashore, often dead. Peterson’s catch emphasizes a note-worthy event, as it is unusual to get a glimpse of such a magnificent creature alive in these waters.
The Doomsday fish legend
The nickname “doomsday fish” has manifested itself in several folklore traditions and tales, particularly in Japan, where doomsday is believed to herald disasters like tsunamis and earthquakes. One such event of sightings of oarfish is known to be reported before the damaging Tohoku earthquake in 2011. Although, many people connect these fish to upcoming calamities. Specialists such as Zachary Heiple from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography mention that there is no scientific evidence to back and prove these claims. He further explains “There’s this thought that they’re a doomsday fish or a bad omen… there didn’t really seem to be any correlation.”
Community reaction
The oarfish catch has gone viral and sparked a significantly lively response all around the internet, with over 1,300 comments on Fishing Australia TV’s Facebook post. Some skeptics speculated about the genuineness of the picture, with comments drawing a parallel between the fish and the magic sea dragon mentioning “Puff the magic sea dragon”, or giving it names such as “the fish version of the bloke at the pub who always has a wild story.”
In a nutshell, regardless of the formidable nickname, the oarfish remains a significantly intriguing example of mysterious marine life. Every sighting, whether connected to superstition or not, allures the imagination and showcases the hidden secrets that lie behind the ocean’s surface.

At least 11 killed in Israeli strike that hit a school in northern Gaza

At least 11 killed in Israeli strike that hit a school in northern Gaza

DEIR AL-BALAH: An Israeli airstrike hit a school sheltering thousands of displaced Palestinians in northern Gaza on Thursday, killing at least 11 people and wounding 22, including women and children, the territory’s Health Ministry said. The Israeli military confirmed it struck the school in the Jabalia refugee camp, saying it was targeting Hamas militants inside who were planning attacks on Israeli troops. The claim couldn’t be independently confirmed.
Footage from the al-Falouja School showed rescue workers rushing casualties out of the school compound amid widespread debris and crowds of people. One video showed men wrapping a mangled, severed torso in a plastic sheet and putting body parts into a cooler.
Gaza’s Health Ministry didn’t immediately provide a breakdown of how many of the casualties were women and children.
Israeli forces have repeatedly struck schools, saying Hamas fighters use them as “command centers” to plan attacks. The military says it uses precision weapons to avoid civilian casualties.
The strikes have brought heavy death tolls. Tens of thousands of Palestinians are living packed in schools across Gaza after fleeing their homes in the face of Israeli bombardment and offensives. More than 1.9 million of Gaza’s 2.4 million people have been displaced in the nearly yearlong conflict, according to the United Nations.
Israel’s campaign in Gaza has killed more than 41,500 Palestinians and wounded more than 96,000 others, according to the latest figures released Thursday by the Health Ministry. The ministry’s count doesn’t differentiate between civilians and combatants, but more than half the dead have been women and children, including about 1,300 children under the age of 2.
Israel launched its campaign in Gaza, vowing to destroy Hamas after its Oct. 7 attack, during which militants killed around 1,200 people and took about 250 others hostage. It blames civilian deaths in Gaza on Hamas, because the group’s fighters operate in residential areas and use civilian infrastructure.

The vice president said invaders came, foreign powers ruled, yet there has never been a decline in our spirit of service

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday said the country is witnessing religious conversions in a structured manner that is opposite to our values and constitutional principles with a “sugar-coated philosophy” being sold and vulnerable sections of the society targeted.

Delivering the inaugural address at the Hindu Spiritual and Seva Mela 2024 here, he said this is very dangerous and is happening through “policy, institutionally, and in a planned conspiracy”.

“A sugar-coated philosophy is being sold. Vulnerable sections of the society, including tribals, are being targeted and lured with temptations,” Dhankhar said.

“I firmly believe that we are witnessing this very painful religious conversions in a structured manner as a policy, and this is opposite to our values and constitutional principles. There is an urgent need to neutralise such sinister forces. We must remain vigilant and act swiftly. You cannot imagine the extent of those who are currently active in fragmenting India,” he said.

Dhankhar also said the Preamble of the Constitution reflects the essence of Sanatan Dharma.

“Hindu religion is quintessentially inclusive in true sense. Spending life in the service of others is the essence and basic mantra of Indian culture. Even today the spirit of service is strongly present in Hindu society,” he said.

He said the Indian society handholds in distress at the cost of one’s stress.

The vice president said invaders came, foreign powers ruled, yet there has never been a decline in our spirit of service. The people have consistently walked this path. Even today, the sentiment of service is strongly present in Hindu society, he said.

According to him, these days, various topics are being discussed at both national and international levels.

Many reports are coming out that conduct studies. Most of them try to find shortcomings in us, suggesting that India is a country where four out of ten people are engaged in public service, helping others, he said.

“I do not agree with the figure of 40 per cent; this assessment is not accurate; the actual number is much higher. We are a society that supports others in distress at the cost of our own stress,” he said.

The secret to finding the alien

The key to spotting the alien is patience and attention to detail. Look closely at every part of the scene. The alien might not look how you expect it to. Sometimes, the brain tricks us into ignoring small details because they don’t seem important – but that’s where the alien is hiding!

Why optical illusions are good for your brain

Optical illusions are more than just fun challenges. They come with a ton of cognitive benefits. Whether you solve them quickly or take a little extra time, these brainteasers are a great way to give your mind a workout. Here’s how they help:

  1. Regularly solving optical illusions helps you think critically and improves your problem-solving skills. These puzzles encourage you to look at things from different angles and think outside the box.
  2. To crack an illusion or puzzle, your brain often needs to recall certain patterns or details you’ve seen before. This recall can strengthen your memory over time, keeping it sharp and active.
  3. Illusions force you to use your imagination, often making you think in ways that you normally wouldn’t. This process stimulates creativity and encourages innovative thinking.
  4. Solving these puzzles requires concentration. By training your brain to focus on small details, you’re improving your ability to concentrate on other tasks in everyday life.
  5. Believe it or not, focusing on a fun puzzle can be a great way to relieve stress. The sense of accomplishment after solving an optical illusion or brainteaser can make you feel relaxed and satisfied.

Did you spot the alien in the queue within 7 seconds? If you did, that’s impressive! If not, don’t worry. Optical illusions are tricky, but that’s what makes them so much fun. They challenge your brain and help improve your problem-solving skills, creativity, and focus.
