A brief tale of a surrogate single mother and her daughter; ‘Ke Prothom Kachhe Eshechi’ wraps up in only 119 episodes

Bengali serials are losing their life-time gradually and becoming briefer with time. Earlier, most of the Bengali serials used to have a lifetime of at least a couple of years. The lifetime of the serials was based on their performance and acceptance among the audience. The parameter of ‘success’ of any serial remains the same to date. However, the lifetime of the daily shows has been chopped off drastically.Serials that do not work with the audience are being concluded within a couple of months. After serials like ‘Ashtami’ and ‘Jogomaya’s conclusion, ‘Ke Prothom Kachhe Eshechi’ has followed suit. The Bengali serial that premiered in May this year, has wrapped up after telecasting only 119 episodes.
The Mohana Maiti and Sayan Bose starrer Bengali serial ‘Ke Prothom Kachhe Eshechi’ started its journey only 3 months ago. The Serial premiered on May 27 with an interesting storyline of a single mother, trying to raise her child on her own. The female protagonist of the show, Madhubani, mother to Mihi, is a single mother who works hard to provide her child with every possible comfort and joy so that she doesn’t feel the absence of her father. Madhubani crossed paths with Rikdev, a wealthy businessman who also happens to be her boss at work. Rikdev gets attracted to Madhubani’s simplicity, sweetness and her dedication towards her daughter Mihi. Rikdev falls in love with Madhubani and decides to marry her. However, as the story progressed, several other tracks came into play. Over the course of the story, it was revealed that Madhubani actually was the surrogate mother of Mihi. Madhubani was forced to opt for surrogacy in exchange of a hefty amount of money, in order to save her ailing father. By the time Madhubani’s past surfaced, the serial did not even have the time to sort out all the strings. Hence, the creators had to hurriedly wrap the story. It was quite unexpected for the cast and crew of ‘Ke Prothom Kachhe Eshechi’ to come to terms with the reality of the show being discontinued. On the final day of shoot, the child actor of the show, Radhika Karmakar, who essayed the role of Mihi, was seen crying uncontrollably holding her on-screen mother Mohana Maiti, who played the female protagonist Madhubani on the show.
Radhika Karmakar, the child actor, who is only four years old, had her first gig as an actor with ‘Ke Prothom Kachhe Eshechi’. Radhika, who hails from Durgapur, is currently a resident of Kolkata with her family. Radhika was seen on the Sourav Ganguly hosted reality-quiz show, Dadagiri Unlimited as well.
Although Madhubani and Mihi’s story initially appealed to the audience, the serial failed to earn a good position on the rating chart. As per insiders, the poor performance on the rating chart was the main reason behind the conclusion of the show.
