Finland and India celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations in New Delhi

The Embassy of Finland in New Delhi hosted a grand reception to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Finland and India. Shri Tanmaya Lal, Secretary (West) from the Ministry of External Affairs, was the guest of honour.
The event brought together diplomats, business leaders, and cultural figures. The evening began with the national anthems of both countries, followed by a speech from Finland’s Ambassador to India, Kimmo Lähdevirta.He highlighted the strong foundation of the Finland-India partnership and the focus on digitalisation, education, sustainability, and innovation. Ambassador Lähdevirta noted that these pillars reflect the countries’ shared vision for the future.
Sakari Puisto, Chairperson of the Commerce Committee of the Finnish Parliament, discussed economic ties, highlighting over 100 Finnish companies operating in India and over €4 billion in investments. He also spoke about expanding cooperation in talent attraction and educational exchanges, while tourism between the two nations flourishes.
A video message from Finland’s Foreign Minister, Elina Valtonen, reaffirmed Finland’s commitment to strengthening ties with India. The event also featured a cultural performance by students from the World University of Design (WUD), showcasing creative collaboration between the two nations.
The reception concluded with a raffle draw and live jazz music, and guests received a Moomin mug as a souvenir, symbolising Finland’s cultural heritage. The evening celebrated the rich partnership between Finland and India, with both nations looking to deepen their collaboration in the future.
