Jivitputrika Vrat 2024: Jitiya Vrat is considered as one of the most auspicious vrat. This day is mainly celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand, and other parts of Uttar Pradesh. Jitiya Vrat is also known as Jivitputrika Vrat and this fast will begin from Ashtami Tithi of Ashwina Month and women perform its parana on the next day after sun rise. This year, Jivitputrika Vrat is going to be observed on September 25, 2024.

Jivitputrika Vrat has a great religious significance among Hindus. On this auspicious day, married women observe this fast and offer prayers to Jimutavahana and Lord Surya with immense devotion and dedication. This day is celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm. This fast is observed by all women for the longevity and well being of their children. This fast is observe for 24 hours.
Jivitputrika Vrat Story
According to the Hindu scriptures, there once lived a humble and benevolent king by the name of Jimutavahana. Giving his kingdom to his brothers and retreating into the forest, he was neither tied to nor content with the world’s pleasures. When he arrived at the woodland, he discovered that a woman was inconsolable.
It was her turn to feed the Pakshiraj Garuda, as she was the one who had to explain to the monarch after he had repeatedly questioned her about her snake family and the custom of feeding him. King assured her that she would get her child back after learning everything. He prepared, wrapped a cloth around himself, and made his presentation to Garuda.
As Garuda was about to consume him, she saw no fear in his eyes. Then he paused and inquired as to his true identity. Everything about him was revealed by the kind King Jimutavahana. Garuda was moved by his humanity. He was assured by Jimutavahana that he will not accept sacrifices from the families of snakes. All Nagvansha became happy and blessed the king with happiness, prosperity and good luck.
Jivitputrika Vrat 2024: Puja Rituals
1. Women get up early in the morning and take bath.
2. They clean the house especially puja room.
3. Women begin the the rituals early in the morning and first offer water to Lord Surya.
4. Female devotees then place an idol Jimutavahana god and light a diya with desi ghee, offer akshat, flowers, banana leaves and other offerings.
5. Recite the Jitiya Vrat Katha for the longevity and well being of the children.
6. This fast is observed for 24 hours and devotees can break their fast next morning after offering prayers and water to Lord Surya.
