Exploring The Impact of Netflix's 'Mr. McMahon' Docuseries on WWE's Future

Amidst big controversies, the Netflix docuseries named “Mr. McMahon” has been released on 25th September. The controversy around the documentary intensified, when Vince McMahon, the guy around whom the docuseries revolves, denounced the documentary himself, calling out the creators. While there have been several controversial revelations made in the series, the big question is- Will the “Mr.McMahon” Docuseries impact the current scenario of WWE?

The Content of The Series
The docuseries is made up of six different episodes and every episode has depicted different stories about different timelines. Starting from WWE’s evolution in the early 70s, the docuseries has depicted the Vince McMahon story till his exit from WWE, in 2022. Interestingly, the creation of this documentary had started in 2021, when there were no sexual harassment cases levied on the former WWE chairman Vince McMahon. So obviously, the majority of the events mentioned in the series are before the events leading to Mr. McMahon’s exit from WWE. A lot of chopping and changing had to be done because of the lawsuit against McMahon which was filed by his former employee Janel Grant. A plethora of WWE Superstars(both former and current)along with Mr. McMahon himself had given interviews and shared anecdotes about their experience of creating and working in WWE. Stars like Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, The Rock, Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan and several other big names of the industry have shared a piece of their mind, on their experience of working under Vince McMahon from the 90’s till 2022.
Therefore, we can conclude that the Mr. McMahon docuseries can impact the current WWE scenario in three following ways
1. Increase In The Viewership

There has definitely been a lot of attention garnered towards the docuseries, which chronicles the life and career of the Ex-Chairman of WWE, Vince McMahon. All the controversies of the 90s, and early 2000’s have been touched upon although, only in brief. This has created a hype around the whole product of WWE and more and more fans are interested to have a piece of it. Even the fans who had lost interest in WWE in recent years, are now talking about the biggest wrestling promotion in the world.
2. It Will Differentiate The Vince McMahon Era from the Triple H Era
Notably, Vince’s son-in-law and former WWE Champion Triple H(AKA, Paul Levesque) has taken over the reigns of WWE from Vince McMahon, since 2022 and has done a tremendous job. The brilliance of Triple H is evident from the ever growing TRP’s and mind-boggling storylines that are being presented in every Premium Live Event of the year. Several major superstars have also opined about their liking for Paul’s way of working and the independence that he has provided everyone. The story if in any way impacts the WWE, it should be positive, as the fans will appreciate the fact that one of the most controversial(and influential) figures of WWE is out of the product now and it is in good hands finally.
3. More Women Would Turn Up to WWE
The one thing that has been fairly presented in the “Mr. McMahon” docuseries is the representation of women in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Shawn Michaels, one of the biggest superstars of the 90’s has admitted to being embarrassed about the state of women in the late 90’s in WWE. If we compare the situation to the current Triple H Era, it is leaps and bounds better. The women’s division is flourishing at a high pace and more and more women want to take up wrestling, looking at the current scenario of WWE divas.
