After Apple, why Xiaomi likely asked CCI to recall report on Flipkart

Xiaomi has reportedly requested the country’s antitrust regulator to retract its report, saying that it contains sensitive business data on the smartphone company. The report alleged competition law violations by the Chinese tech company and Walmart-owned Flipkart.
Citing two people familiar, the news agency Reuters reported that Xiaomi sent a formal application to the Competition Commission of India (CCI), noting that the investigation report on Flipkart contains sensitive business data on the smartphone company, including model-wise sales data, that should have been redacted when the document was shared with parties in the case.
This move may potentially delay the ongoing antitrust investigation against the companies, which was initiated in 2021. Previously, CCI recalled a similar report on Apple after the company raised concerns about the disclosure of commercial secrets.
CCI’s investigation reports are confidential and are exclusively shared with the parties involved in the case. When a recall is requested, all parties must return the report, which is then subjected to additional scrutiny for potential redactions, the report noted.
What CCI’s investigation found against Xiaomi
Earlier this month, CCI cited a report on Flipkart and Amazon to discover that these e-commerce platforms Amazon and Flipkart favoured certain sellers and listings. Additionally, the report alleged that these e-tailers collaborated with companies like Xiaomi to launch phones exclusively on their platforms.
As per the data by Counterpoint Research, Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is one of two India’s biggest smartphone players while other Chinese smartphone makers like Vivo have 19% of the market which is less than Xiaomi.

Why Xiaomi is concerned with the Flipkart report

The report claims that Xiaomi isn’t worried about the data within the Amazon report, which also alleges collusion between Amazon and Xiaomi. The company’s main concern lies solely with the Flipkart report.
Xiaomi has requested that the commission mandate all parties to return the Flipkart report and destroy any copies, allowing the watchdog to redact sensitive information and reissue the revised report.
The CCI’s report on Flipkart highlighted that the Indian branches of Xiaomi, Motorola, Vivo, Lenovo and Realme engaged in the practice of exclusively launching products on Flipkart’s platform. The report criticised this practice as detrimental to free and fair competition and harmful to consumer interests.
The antitrust watchdog also recalled a similar report on Apple, where it found that the US tech giant abused its market dominance in the iOS app store. However, the iPhone maker has denied these allegations.

Sports Teams Facing Renewed Calls To Change Team Names Based On Racial Slurs | TODAY

A big example is the Washington Football Team, formerly known as the Redskins. Many felt the name was offensive to Native Americans.Activists and Native groups said it was perpetuating stereotypes about their culture in a negative manner. They demanded that the team do away with the name, and as public support increased along with this, pressure from large companies- the team said in 2020 that it would shed the old name. The team is now known as the Washington Commanders, revealing that indeed, collective action can truly lead to big leaps in the world of sports.
Similarly, the Cleveland Indians baseball team was so condemned concerning the name and the mascot. Others felt that offense was due to the name, and only in 2020 did the team change the name to the Guardians. This is part of a whole movement where teams review names so as not to hurt some community. It also points to the social justice nuance concerning respect for everybody.
Some like the new names; they feel that it is important to be respectful and kind to everyone. Others are far from thrilled. These people are close to the former names and are afraid the history and memories tied up in these teams are being lost. So, in this kind of debate, shows how the matter is not easy—people want progress, but people also want to hold onto their traditions.
Such an ongoing debate has in turn reached other teams such as the Kansas City Chiefs and the Atlanta Braves. There is a clamor for both of these names to be changed as well. Both teams have so far maintained their names but are ensuring that people learn about Indigenous cultures.
The significance of respect for different cultures through NFL team names as this controversy goes forward to urge even greater dialogue on identity and inclusion is sent through these controversies.

Medical education in central Asia: Overcoming barriers for Indian students | India News

Medical education in central Asia: Overcoming barriers for Indian students
Studying medicine abroad has become a popular option for many Indian students, offering exposure to diverse medical practices and the chance to experience different healthcare systems. Attending an international medical school often provides students with opportunities for hands-on clinical training, exposure to advanced medical technology, and global networking. This international exposure can help shape a well-rounded medical professional, equipped to work in different healthcare environments.
However, as Ravi K Wadhawan, parent-teacher and student counsellor, pointed out, Central Asian countries such as Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan have emerged as affordable and accessible education hubs against the long-preferred destinations like Russia for medical studies. Despite its reputation for quality education, students often face language barriers, outdated infrastructure, and insufficient clinical exposure. Unregulated education consultants often mislead students about foreign degrees and help them enroll into these inadequately governed institutions. Poorly trained students from these colleges usually fail India’s Foreign Medical Graduate Examination. The Russia-Ukraine conflict has only worsened the situation. In this light, Indian authorities must provide proper guidance to students. The National Medical Commission should establish a robust accreditation system for foreign institutions to ensure students enroll in recognized programs abroad.
Dr Kumardeep Dutta Choudhury, director of medical oncology at Max Hospital, notes that while Sri Lanka and Bangladesh offer affordable medical education, they face moderate standards and social challenges. He suggests Indian regulators limit approved overseas colleges to ensure higher education quality for Indian students.
While international medical schools can offer many advantages, careful selection and awareness of the associated risks are crucial for a successful medical career.

How NFL Stars Balance Love and Football: Stories from the Gridiron | NFL News

Being an NFL star is much of a commitment – both on and off the field. So much accompanies this position – intense practices, many practice hours, and tremendous pressure during games.
Perhaps the most public NFL couple is quarterback Russell Wilson and his spouse, singer Ciara. This union, built upon mutual respect and support, stands as something of a model for balance between personal life and professional responsibility.Wilson, of course, won a Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos and expressed during that time how important family was to him, again and again pointing to his family as an influence on his performance on the field.

Wilson spends as much of the off-season as he can with Ciara and their children. If they are on vacation, they go. They do not go when it’s just a routine household moment. Their relationship shows that however busy their careers are, people can still stay strong by being there for each other and being open, communicating, and showing each other that they care.
There’s the related story of the Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who did not shy away from speaking on how hard it is to find balance between football and love. Rodgers thanks his past girlfriends, including his newest one, actress Shailene Woodley, before getting into the essentials of compromise and common sense, especially during such a long NFL season. He gives thanks to his girlfriend for being so very patient and accommodating, allowing him to immerse himself in his high-profile career while giving him time and space during off-season breaks to develop personal relationships.
Another well-known example is wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald has handled the demands of an NFL schedule without letting such demands negatively impact his relationships with his children. Fitzgerald suggests compartmentalizing one’s life. For instance, he explains, that during a season, he is all about football, but during the off-season, he is all about life with his family.
These stories reflect different ways that someone can find an equilibrium involving love, family, and work to really move their life to the highest level regarding a sport such as the NFL. Establishing lines of communication, support, and management of time enables them to overcome the circumstances of life on and off the gridiron.

How NFL Players Handle Media Scrutiny: Stories of Resilience and Reputation | NFL News

NFL players are subjected to extremely critical media scrutiny, with the power to shape their lives, careers, or personal relationships greatly. The constant pressure to maintain a positive public image can be overwhelming at times. However, most show remarkable resilience and skill in managing their reputation in such situations.

Does The Media Actually Affect NFL Players?

Take the case of Michael Vick for instance; he was severally accused and vilified due to his association with the dogfighting scandal and was quite heavily bashed by the media.Instead of hiding in the shadows, he went out there to face the situation. Vick publicly confessed his faults and took rehabilitation, pushing himself harder to work his way back to coming out clean. He is now a back-to-back successful NFL returnee and transformed from shame to redemption and a pro-animal activist.
Similarly, after his controversial statements and behaviour, there came a stormy media over DeSean Jackson. Criticized, Jackson started taking initiatives for community engagement and brought social justice-related movement issues to the public forum. Focusing on being an activist as opposed to past mistakes, he rebuilt his reputation while making the surroundings a better place through his forum.
Russell Wilson, and other athletes, also put importance on proactive media relations. Being known for his good attitude, and commitment to faith and family, Wilson would always use every chance to speak through media and share his values. This helps him maintain a powerful public figure that goes beyond common stereotypes of the sport, and he becomes able to establish long-term relationships with fans and sponsors.
Otherwise, though, some players seem willing to ditch any interaction at all with the media. The Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch, for instance, famously became sort of an icon for keeping low and often gave short, cryptic answers in interviews. This helped him maintain whatever level of privacy he wanted while still getting attention on the field.
After all, the NFL player handles his interactions with the press differently, showing his resilience and flexibility. Sometimes it is through public apologetic sentiments, community engagement, or simply skillful avoidance of the media. These athletes navigate through the complex tapestry of public opinion, leaving lasting legacies within the game and outside of it.

67% of Women Struggle with Work-Life Imbalance, Reveals IIMA Study Amid Tragic Death of Young EY Employee: How Companies Need to Support Their Female Workforce

In a tragic incident that has reignited the debate on workplace stress, a young employee at Ernst & Young (EY) recently passed away, allegedly due to work-related pressure. In a heart-wrenching letter, her mother addressed the EY India CEO, expressing concern over the relentless workload that left her daughter drained, exhausted, and overwhelmed. The letter emphasised how the late nights and high expectations placed upon employees, particularly women, can severely impact mental health and personal well-being.
This tragedy has cast a spotlight on the broader issue of work-life imbalance, particularly for women in corporate environments.Coincidentally, the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) recently released a report revealing that 67% of women in the workforce struggle to maintain a healthy balance between their professional and personal lives. The report provides critical insights into the pressures women face in the modern workplace and has highlighted the urgent need for organisations to reassess their approach to employee well-being.
Key Findings from the IIMA Report
The IIMA study, which surveyed over 2,000 working women across various sectors, found that a significant number of women are facing immense difficulty in juggling their careers with family and personal responsibilities. According to the report, more than two-thirds of respondents admitted that they constantly feel torn between their professional duties and their roles at home, leading to heightened stress, burnout, and in some cases, severe health repercussions.
The findings also highlighted the role of organisational culture and the absence of support systems in exacerbating the problem. For many women, long working hours, coupled with rigid expectations from employers, leave little room for personal time, leading to feelings of isolation and frustration. This imbalance is especially prevalent among younger women, who are more likely to be entering the workforce during formative years of family-building. Here is a look at the major findings if the study:
• 67% of women report struggling with work-life balance.
• 53% of respondents indicated they feel an overwhelming sense of guilt about not spending enough time with family.
• 48% cited workplace culture as a major contributor to stress and imbalance.
• 60% of working mothers said they face pressure from both home and work, leading to mental fatigue.
• Only 22% of organisations offer flexible work hours or remote work options to help alleviate these pressures.
Supporting Women: What Companies Can Do For the Female Workforce
To reduce stress and improve work-life balance for women, companies can offer flexible work hours, remote work options, and mental health support. Providing on-site childcare, paid parental leave, and wellness programmes also helps. Encouraging a healthy work-life culture fosters productivity while reducing burnout among the female workforce. Here are a few suggestions for employers.
Implement Flexible Working Hours: Companies should introduce flexible working schedules to allow women to manage both work and family responsibilities without compromising their health. Remote work options and the freedom to choose hours based on personal circumstances can go a long way in reducing stress.
Focus on Mental Health Support: Providing professional mental health services, including counselling and stress management workshops, can empower female employees to cope with pressure and develop healthier coping mechanisms.
Promote a Culture of Work-Life Balance: Organisations must foster a culture that prioritises work-life balance, not just in policies but in practice. Senior leaders should model balanced behaviour, ensuring that employees do not feel compelled to overwork or ignore personal time.
Offer Maternity and Childcare Support: Extending maternity benefits, offering childcare services, or creating a more inclusive environment for working mothers can help ease the burden on women juggling both roles.
Encourage Open Dialogue: Companies should create a safe space where women can openly discuss the challenges they face in balancing work and life without fear of judgement or career repercussions.
Last word
The tragic loss at EY is a wake-up call for corporate India. It underscores the need for meaningful change in the way companies support their female workforce, ensuring that no one has to sacrifice their health or happiness for career success. The findings from the IIMA report add further urgency to this issue, serving as a reminder that the road to work-life balance must be paved with empathy, flexibility, and a genuine commitment to employee well-being.
