Sean Payton had taken a shot at his predecessor, Nathaniel Hackett, shortly after he was hired as the head coach of the Broncos last season. Rodgers, who had worked under Hackett as offensive coordinator for five seasons, was furious when his former OC was critical of Hackett during his time as the Jets OC. According to Rodgers, Payton referred to Hackett as “insecure” and commented that he needed to “keep my coaches’ names out of his mouth,” publicizing his apparently close relationship with Hackett.
