According to a report by 9to5Mac, some users have noticed that their iPhone 16 Pro screens are ignoring taps and swipes, which is affecting various interactions like scrolling, pressing buttons, and missed presses on keys on the virtual keyboard.As per the report, a software bug in iOS 18 and iOS 18.1 beta versions is causing this issue. However, we at TOI Tech-Gadgets Now checked for the same on both iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models running iOS 18 and iOS 18.1 beta, but didn’t notice any such issue(s).

How this issue may be affecting some users

The report claims that some iPhone 16 Pro users have reported experiencing touchscreen issues, with the iPhone sometimes failing to register taps and swipes. The report also cited testing and user feedback to note that this may be a software problem caused by an overly sensitive touch rejection algorithm in iOS.
The issue is likely triggered when users unintentionally touch the screen’s edges, especially near the Camera Control button or when holding the phone without a case, the report adds. The iPhone 16 Pro’s slim bezels may also be behind this problem. When accidental touches occur, the software mistakenly rejects subsequent intended touches, leading to the claimed unresponsiveness.
The report also claimed that the issue is present in both iOS 18 and the iOS 18.1 beta versions, but it doesn’t seem to affect the locked screen, suggesting a software-based cause. Apple is expected to address this with a software update in the coming days.
Meanwhile, users can temporarily mitigate the issue by using a case which is expected to make it harder for fingers to accidentally touch the screen edges, the report suggests.
