Search for missing MBBS student intensifies after two bodies recovered in Maredumilli waterfall incident

RAJAHMUNDRY: Two bodies out of three MBBS students who went missing in a waterfall in Maredumilli in the ASR district were traced. The bodies of Kosireddy Somya(21) belong to Bobbili in Parvathi Puram district and Amrutha(21) have been retrieved from 500 meters away from the waterfall. They were trapped in the trees downstream of the waterfall. The NDRF and SDRF teams are searching for the missing student, Hardeep belongs to Markapuram in the Prakasam district.Meanwhile, heavy rains and strong currents are hampering the rescue operation and the search operation will begin on Tuesday morning.
It may be recalled that 14 students studying MBBS in Ashram Medical College in Eluru came to Maredumilli for picnic on Sunday and they ventured into Jalatarangini waterfall which is on the inter-state road between Maredumilli and Chintoor. Due to the heavy rainfall in the upstream area of the waterfall, flashflood took place. Some of the students could manage to come out of the way of the strong currents, but, Sowmya, Haradeep, Amrutha, Harini Priya and Gayathri were washed away in the stream. Two youth from Odisha who were at the spot had rescued Harini Priya and Gayathri belong to Vizianagaram district. Harini Priya whose condition was serious was shifted to Rajahmundry government hospital.
