Mithun Chakraborty and Debasree collaborate after over 1.5 decade; ‘Shastri’ trailer out now | Bengali Movie News


After the prolonged lull in the Bengali entertainment industry due to the rippling effect of the heinous RG Kar rape-murder incident, Tollywood is gearing up once again to get back on its feet ahead of Durga Puja. Durga Puja, being the biggest festival of Bengal, is one of the best opportunities for the entertainment industry to pull in the audience and thrive at the box office.Apart from ‘Tekka’, ‘Bohurupi’, ‘Shastri’ is another film awaiting its theatrical release during the festivities of Durga Puja. ‘Shastri’, directed by Pathikrit Basu, boasts of an ensemble cast of veteran Bengali actor Mithun Chakraborty, Debasree Roy, Soham Chakraborty, Saswata Chatterjee, Sauraseni Maitra, Rajatava Dutta, Anirban Chakrabarti, Kaushik Sen and others. The 2 minute 45 minute long trailer features the Padma Bhushan awardee Mithun Chakraborty as Pariman Sanyal, an ordinary man who suddenly gets extraordinary power to see the future. Debasree Roy, another veteran Tollywood actress who plays his wife, is also seen in the trailer. The duo has paired up for the first time in almost 16 years. Mithun and Debasree, known for their on-screen chemistry, have starred 15 films, many of which were major blockbusters. Their on-screen chemistry became a hit with 1982’s ‘Troyee’. Ever since, the duo was a popular on-screen pair in the ’80s and ’90s. In 2010, they were seen in the film Shukno Lonka. However, they were not the cast opposite each other.
The ‘Disco Dancer’ actor Mithun Chakraborty debuted in ‘Mrigaya’ in 1976. The veteran Bengali actor has acted in over 350 films including in Hindi language and gifted audiences blockbusters such as ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’ and ‘Teesra Kaun’. Debasree, on the other hand, is known for her works in films like ‘Bhalobasa Bhalobasa’ (1985), ‘Lalmahal’ (1986), ‘Chokher Aloy’ (1989), ‘Jhankar’ (1989), ‘Ahankar’ (1991), ‘Unishe April’ (1994), ‘Yuddha’ (2005).
Director Pathikrit Basu, who has helmed films like ‘Kacher Manush’, ‘Dadur Kirti’, and very recent ‘Dabaru’, has described the film as an exploration of family, fate, and life itself.
Produced by Soham Chakraborty, ‘Shastri’ is set to hit the screens on October 8 during Durga Puja.
